Abigail Cook

Piano

Abigail grew up in a Suzuki family, with all six of her older siblings studying strings through the Suzuki method.  At the age of two, she began Suzuki piano lessons with renowned Suzuki Teacher Trainer Diana Galindo. She later continued her studies with the internationally acclaimed pedagogue Fei Xu. Through her studies, Abigail quickly developed a deep passion for music and decided to pursue a career in piano performance and education. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Alan Chow.  Throughout her musical career, Abigail has received numerous awards and honors, including First Prize in the 2016 Arizona MusicFest Young Musicians Competition, Second Prize in the 2015 Steinway Avanti Competition, and First Prize in the 2014 MTNA State Piano Competition.  She made her orchestral debut in 2009 with the Northern Arizona University Chamber Orchestra.  Most recently, Abigail has recorded two albums with the chamber ensembles she co-founded, both of which include her original arrangements.

In addition to performing, Abigail has always had a great passion for teaching. As a product of the Suzuki method herself, she naturally began pursuing Suzuki teacher training with her former teacher and trainer. Abigail has been teaching Suzuki piano for 11 years. Her passion for music is evident in her teaching as she strives to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students can develop not only strong musical foundations, but also confidence, creativity, discipline, and a lifelong love for music.  She believes that every child has the ability to learn and grow as a musician when given the right encouragement, guidance, and opportunities.
